Throughout the centuries prayerful people have found direction for their lives through the practice of the examen (also known as the “examination of consciousness”). The examen provides a way of noticing where God shows up in our day.
InterVarsity is more than a student ministry—we are a university ministry! The first of our twelve core values identifies the college and university as our context and declares: We are called to be a redeeming influence among its people, ideas and structures . As we dedicate ourselves to establish and advance witnessing communities of students and faculty who follow Jesus (our Purpose), by God’s grace we expect to see students and faculty transformed and developed into world changers and campuses renewed (our Vision).
As a community, God has provided several new ways for us to engage the campus. What are the opportunities and how will we respond? In this Inside GFM, I am going to offer three snapshots from my last two weeks, with some embedded challenges.
Statistics show that over 50% of Ph.D. candidates may never become tenured faculty. Many are exploring their calling to the university through alternative paths. Might GFM staff be part of God’s calling to the academy for your students?
GFM E-Calls are designed to help equip you in the area of evangelism. These monthly, 90-minute zoom calls will provide training, questions and interactions, and time to pray for more faculty and grad students to take steps towards Jesus and entering his Kingdom through our ministry.
GFM and CARIFES are jointly hosting a conference for graduate students and faculty in January 2017. Please invite your students and consider attending with them.
Like you, many faculty and administrators pray for the campus and students. They share the gospel, even when it’s risky. If you’re like me, maybe you’ve served in campus ministry for multiple years without considering ministering to faculty or staff, even though they’ve likely been loving the campus much longer than ourselves.
