Retiring College Loans before You Reach Retirement

Congratulations on graduating! For years now, you have lived on ramen noodles, sandwiches, M&Ms, and perhaps even... cafeteria food. Now, perhaps there is a mountain of debt staring you in the face and you are beginning to wonder... when will I ever get to eat like a "grown up?" Here is some encouragement and hope for paying back your student loans and still having enough money for groceries.

  • Meg Favreau posted a very practical article 15 Ways to Pay Back Student Loans Faster, offering both helpful hints and resources for additional information on the website WiseBread. Her first piece of advice, is to have a positive attitude. You can do this.
  • Dealing with Debt is a downloadable resource from Inside HigherEd. It is a free printable booklet, however, it will cost you your email address. Here you will find several articles on the subject of debt, budgeting, and student loans.
  • Emily Roberts, who wrote Break the Taboo: Talk with Your Peers about Money (GradHacker/IHE, 4/27/2015) is a member of GCF at Duke. She has her own advice (& website) about how best to make a plan that is going to work for you.

Do you have any resources you look to when thinking about debt repayment and elimination? What do you tell your students/graduates? We would love to hear from you so the comments on this article are presently turned on and we invite your feedback.
