Salt and Light: Engaging the University in Presence and Conversation
Our goal is to learn how to help graduate students and faculty engage the university as the salt and light of Christ. We’ll explore how students and faculty might engage the university in depth—in their everyday faithfulness and Christian presence in work and scholarship. We’ll explore how students and faculty might engage the university in breadth—through the practices of listening and engaging conversations.
We’re delighted for the opportunity to learn from our keynote speakers Dr. Terry Halliday, Dr. Denise-Margaret Thompson, and Dr. Andre Cooper. Denise and her husband Andre will speak about their journeys of living faithfully in their work as scholars, faculty, and now as a university president. Terry will speak about how to engage the university through the art of conversation. Full biographical details for our speakers are attached.
In preparation for our meetings, please see the attached pre-conference assignment and readings to prepare us for our learning together in March. While these assignments will only take 1-2 hours of your time, please read the instructions soon because we’d like you to choose a World Café conversation topic online by February 22. You can also RSVP to Lorrey Thabet.
Join the planning team (Marianne Smith, Geoff VanDragt, Kevin Kummer, Jon Dahl, Lorrey Thabet, and me) in prayer for our time together, that we would experience the blessing of God and become salt and light in the universities where we serve. We look forward to seeing you at Mundelein!
In Christ,
