Partnership with Undergrad Colleagues Initiative

This initiative is simple but one with important long-term benefits (alas, no money attached).

  • The challenge: Too often, we in GFM and our colleagues on the undergrad side operate in silos, even when serving on the same campus. There are understandable reasons for this: we belong to separate teams, we serve distinctive audiences, we emphasize different aspects of ministry, and our plates are always full. But there are so many potential dividends to increasing our level of partnership, even just a little bit. For example: sharing stewardship for mission on a common campus, enhancing the pipeline of graduating seniors heading to grad school with vision to be part of GFM, serving more faculty more effectively, etc.
  • The opportunity: The national Collegiate Ministries Leadership Team and the GFM Leadership Team have agreed to take some small concrete steps forward this next year. The goal is to create some bright spots, ideally two in each of the 16 undergrad regions. We want to identify up to 32 GFM staff who would be willing to take the initiative with their undergrad counterparts to find a few ways to support one another. The respective undergrad and GFM Area Directors will be asked to bless and reinforce this effort. We will ask for a simple report in December and May. Next spring, we will survey what we have tried and find ways to commend some of the best stories and practices more widely.
  • The invitation: Would you be willing to take some initiative along these lines on your campus this year? We will not prescribe what this should look like. You can find plenty of ideas here. We will let you figure out what is feasible in your situation. Even a very modest step is better than nothing. If you are already in some kind of relationship or partnership with undergrad colleagues, please sign up and continue to do what you typically do.
